Hazardous Substances > WHMIS: 2015

Chemicals in the workplace can present a wide variety of hazards. WHMIS is a national hazard communication system that provides information on the safe use of hazardous products used, handled or stored in Canadian workplaces. GHS will not replace WHMIS. WHMIS has been modified to incorporate elements of the GHS. There will be new, standardized classification rules, new label requirements, and a new format for the safety data sheet, or SDS, formally known as a material safety data sheet, or MSDS. People who come into contact with hazardous chemicals at work need to know how to keep themselves, their co-workers, the general public and the environment, safe from harm.
